Generic test enablement at the Dutch Tax Office

Context

The Generic Test Enablement team was reactive to incoming questions and less predictable than the organisation wanted. Innovation had stalled, the test guild was inactive, and team-level automation was low — taking a release live took days instead of hours or minutes. Customer-driven thinking was missing.

What we did

• Held a team lift-off.
• Delivered multiple training and inspiration sessions.
• Started coaching contracts with teams.
• Coached using a "show, do together, hand over" pattern.
• Engaged management directly on the importance of test automation.
• Built workshops and trainings tailored to the Belastingdienst context, so teams do the right things in the right way.

Outcome

• The monthly test guild is well attended.
• The team has become predictable.
• Multiple teams are actively supported on test automation.
• A growing number of teams have the drive to take test automation seriously.
• The team has found its own drive again.
